Women’s Basketball Has Arrived

By Montez Taylor

The Lady Skyhawks show perseverance as they dominate over Wilbur Wright College November 8th, 2022. The Skyhawks display their skills for their home opening debut after experiencing multiple troubles to start off this year's season.

The women's basketball team started off strong in numbers having double the amount of players they had last year. As the season approached the Lady Skyhawks roster cut down to only six players due to injuries and other complications but this did not stop them.

First quarter was a heated battle between the Skyhawks and the Rams as both teams exchanged points. Ainsleigh Hendrix drains a huge three to put the Skyhawks up along with getting help from Rachel Barret who led the first quarter with eight points.

The Skyhawks hooked it up in the second quarter as Barret scored four straight points to start the quarter and kept the lead large over the Rams. Hailey Walters ,a Sophomore who played a huge role in last year's team, sinks a deep three from the corner to put the Skyhawks up by eleven points at halftime.

Coming out of half time the Rams start out hot and cut the double digit lead down to only six points going on a five to zero run. But sophomore Hailey Walters takes control and regroups her teammates as she extends their lead once again and finishes the 3rd quarter with seven more points.

Jenna Johnson, Skylar Savage and Hailey Walters, all returners from last year's team, Exhibit their sophomore leadership as they combine for sixteen points for the fourth quarter putting the Skyhawk lead up to fifteen points. Nakiya Rascon swishes a three pointer from the wing to close out the game resulting in victory for the Skyhawks.

Skyhawks are coached by head coach Julie Schroeder-Ranz who has only been coaching at Sauk Valley for her second year, alongside assistant coach Kiley Johnson who is also on her second year coaching at Sauk.
